Biography

JUNIOR (2017): Played in 10 games… recorded four tackles (2 solos)…one solo and assisted tackled at Coastal Carolina… made a tackled against Missouri State…one tackle against South Dakota State.

SOPHOMORE (2016): Saw action in 10 games... 18 tackles (13 solos)... one interception and five pass break-ups... four solo tackles versus Northern Arizona, including a 3-yard loss, and broke up a pass... four tackles and a pass break-up at Northern Illinois... solo tackle and broke up a pass at South Dakota State... picked up his first interception of the year in the Indiana State game... made two solo tackles against Illinois State... two tackles, a pass break-up and blocked an extra point attempt against UNI.

REDSHIRT-FRESHMAN (2015): MVFC All-Newcomer Team... played in all 13 games and started nine times... team-leading four interceptions (37 yards)... 36 tackles on the year, including 2.0 for a loss... six pass break-ups... came up with first interception in his collegiate debut versus Eastern Illinois and added two solo stops, including a 2-yard TFL... recorded five tackles at Illinois, including a 6-yarder for a loss... broke up a pass at Coastal Carolina... three solo tackles versus Southern Illinois... two solo stops against South Dakota... started at UNI and made two solo tackles... season-high six tackles at Illinois State... three tackles and two pass break-ups against Youngstown State... five tackles at North Dakota State... interception and broke up a pass at Indiana State... three solo tackles, two pass break-ups and an interception right in front of the goal line versus South Dakota State... returned the interception 31 yards... two solo tackles at Dayton... team-leading fourth interception during the second quarter of the playoff game at Illinois State... added three solo tackles.

FRESHMAN (2014): Redshirted.. named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in football and track/field… earned All-City honors in football… recording nine passing touchdowns, one TD receiving, and six rushing touchdowns… registered four interceptions and 41 tackles… during his junior year had nine interceptions and returned two for a touchdown… played for coach Lexie Spurlock and coach Wesley Yates.

PERSONAL: Born July 19, 1996 in Chicago… his older brother Josh is a member of the Leatherneck football program and has been a major influence, “He started football a year earlier than me, and ever since then we have been competing to see who is the best. Also to make my mother and family proud.”… most admires one of his former coaches Ron Moore, “He was my foundation for everything. He made me tough and taught me how to never quit.”… also admires former coach Alonzo Harris, “He stayed in my ear pushing me and giving me motivation to improve in every aspect of life.”… in addition to his brother Josh, he has another brother Russell who plays basketball for Kennedy King College… enjoys basketball, working out, football, playing spades and the X-Box… favorite professional teams are the Chicago Bulls, Bears, White Sox and Blackhawks… favorite music is Meek Mill… son of Russell and LaTonya Smith.
