MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois University Athletics is proud to announce a special Leatherneck Football Alumni Reunion, taking place the weekend of September 26–27, 2025. The event will honor generations of Leatherneck football players, with special recognition planned for those who continued their careers in the National Football League.
The reunion weekend will culminate with a marquee Ohio Valley Conference matchup, as the Leathernecks host long-time, in-state rival Eastern Illinois University on Saturday, September 27 at 3 p.m. at Hanson Field.
"Leatherneck Football has such a proud and rich tradition," said WIU Director of Athletics Paul A. Bubb. "Our history of players going on to the NFL is incredible. Over the years, we've celebrated conference championships and FCS playoff appearances. This fall, we're inviting our former players back to campus to reconnect and to especially recognize those who made it to the highest level of the sport."
More than 80 Leatherneck alumni have played in the NFL, representing 32 different franchises.
The weekend kicks off Friday afternoon with facility tours and a meet-and-greet with the current Leatherneck football team. That evening, alumni will gather for a Welcome Back Reception. On Saturday, activities will include a Reunion Luncheon and a Football Alumni Tailgate in Q Lot. During halftime of the game, all alumni in attendance will be honored, with a special salute to those who played in the NFL.
Western Illinois Athletics invites all Leatherneck football alumni to return to Macomb for what promises to be a memorable weekend of celebration, connection, and recognition.
