Western Illinois Struggles in St. Charles Doubleheader
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Western Illinois faced a tough day on Sunday, dropping both games of their doubleheader against Valparaiso and Green Bay in tournament play.
In the first game, the Leathernecks fell to Valparaiso 4-1 despite a strong pitching performance. Valparaiso's consistent offense, scoring in four different innings, proved too much to overcome. Western Illinois managed only five hits, with Ruby Tarr providing the lone extra-base hit of the game. Lillie Wools and the pitching staff battled, but Valparaiso capitalized on key scoring opportunities to secure the win.
Things didn't improve for Western Illinois in the second game against Green Bay, as they suffered a 10-1 loss in five innings. Green Bay's offense came out swinging, scoring three runs in the first and six more in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Western Illinois struggled offensively, collecting just two hits, with Maria Luna driving in the team's only run.
The Leathernecks now sit at 5-12 on the season and will look to bounce back in their upcoming matchups as they continue their early-season tournament slate.
