Macomb, Ill. – Western Illinois struggled to contain Bradley University's offense in a tough 12-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium. Despite solid efforts at the plate, the Leathernecks couldn't overcome Bradley's early offensive surge.
Bradley University (12-15) set the tone early, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Western Illinois (6-18) answered with a run in the second and two more in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to slow Bradley's momentum.
The Leathernecks tallied six hits in the contest, with Megan Leonard leading the way, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Sophia Sanchez also contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Ruby Tarr scored a run and swiped two bases.
On the mound, Western Illinois struggled against Bradley's bats. Starting pitcher Audrey Clark (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits without recording an out. The bullpen saw action from multiple arms, but Bradley still racked up 12 hits, including four doubles and a home run.
Bradley's offense was fueled by a balanced attack, with Morgan Schlosser leading the charge with a 3-for-3 performance, two doubles, and two RBIs. Abbott Badgley delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam, driving in four runs.
Western Illinois will aim to regroup and refine its pitching as it prepares for the next games this upcoming weekend March 22-23 at Tennessee Tech.
