Macomb, Ill- The Leatherneck Men's Basketball team lost to Tennessee State 72-52 on Saturday evening inside Western Hall where the Leathernecks shot just 32.7% (16-of-49) from the field.
Despite Julius Rollins leading WIU with 18 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from three, the rest of the team couldn't find their rhythm. Marko Maletic contributed 13 points but struggled with his accuracy, shooting just 4-of-14 overall. Sean Smith added 8 points and 5 rebounds, but WIU's lack of consistent scoring and inability to convert inside the paint (16 points compared to TSU's 34) proved costly.
The Tigers, led by Ronald Jessamy's 16 points and 8 rebounds, dominated the paint on both ends. Josh Ogundele chipped in 12 points and 8 boards, while Brandon Weston contributed 9 points and 7 rebounds. TSU shot 48.2% from the field including shooting 43% from three point range.
The Leathernecks' 12 turnovers compounded their woes, as TSU converted them into 18 points. WIU's bench struggled, providing just 4 points compared to TSU's 24.
WIU will now hit the road as they will travel to take on Morehead State on Thursday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m CT.
