Trush Scores Win as Leatherneck Tennis Falls to EIU

Western Illinois drops 6-1 match to Panthers

CHARLESTON – Anna-Evelina Trush picked up another singles victory for Western Illinois, but it was not enough as the Leathernecks fell at Eastern Illinois 6-1 on Friday afternoon.

Playing at No. 6 singles, Trush improved her overall record to 5-9, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The five wins at singles lead the team. Playing at No. 1 singles, Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza nearly picked up a three-set win. After taking the first, 7-6 (7-2), Rossetto Diniz de Souza would fall 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).

In doubles play, EIU took all three matches. At No. 2 doubles, the pair of Agatha Carbonell and Maria Rybka almost picked up a win, falling 7-6 (7-5).

Western Illinois (2-12 overall, 0-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference) is now off until March 30 when they host Southern Indiana. This Sunday's match against South Dakota was canceled.
