Leathernecks Return Home for Two Games This Week

Western Illinois hosts Hannibal-LaGrange and South Dakota

MACOMB – After a three-game road trip to Valparaiso, Illinois and Wisconsin, the Western Illinois men return to Western Hall for a three-game homestand. A pair of those games take place this week as the Leathernecks (2-5) host Hannibal-LaGrange at 7 p.m. on Thursday and former Summit League rival South Dakota at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Leathernecks have not lost inside Western Hall, topping Southern University and St. Ambrose in their lone home games.

LAST TIME OUT | Western Illinois fell behind by 16 at halftime at Wisconsin on Monday night, but cut the deficit to eight at the 13:00 mark of the second half, only to see the Badgers pull away for the 71-49 victory. James Dent Jr. led WIU with 17 points while Drew Cisse added eight points and 11 rebounds.

ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS | Western Illinois comes in having lost three in a row, but is unbeaten at home. The Leathernecks are scoring 67.1 points per game while allowing 76.4. WIU is shooting 39.2 percent from the field while opponents make 43.4 percent.

James Dent Jr. leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per night. Dent Jr. has scored in double figures in each game this season. Ryan Myers adds 11.0 points per game while Drew Cisse scores 8.4 and Jesiah West 7.7.

Cisse adds 10.6 rebounds per game. He has grabbed double-digit rebounds in five of seven contests.

ABOUT THE TROJANS | Hannibal-LaGrange is 2-6 overall and coming off a road loss to College of the Ozarks on Tuesday night. The Trojans have dropped three-straight regular season games as well as exhibitions against Quincy and Lindenwood. The Trojans averaged 59.2 points per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the floor and 33.3 from three. Janssen Flotow leads the team in scoring, averaging over 17 points per game.

ABOUT THE COYOTES | USD is 5-3 overall, most recently defeating Waldorf on Tuesday night, 93-71. The Coyotes are a high-scoring team, averaging 82.1 points per contest on 45.9 percent shooting. USD allows 69.4 points per game. The South Dakota offense is a balanced attack, led by Lahat Thioune, who averages 14.3 points per game. Kaleb Stewart adds 13.9, Bostyn Holt adds 10.6 and Paul Bruns chips in with 10.5. Thioune also adds 10 boards per game.

HISTORY | Western Illinois is 1-0 all-time vs. Hannibal-LaGrange. The Leathernecks claimed the only meeting between the two schools, winning 94-57 on November 15, 2015. Western Illinois is 10-19 all-time vs. South Dakota. The Leathernecks and Coyotes split last year's two meetings, with WIU winning 75-72 in Macomb on January 26, 2023 and USD earning a 8-63 win on December 31, 2022. USD has won six of the last eight meetings.

WHAT'S NEXT | Western Illinois remains in town next week for one game, hosting Coe College on Wednesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The Leathernecks then hit the road, taking on Green Bay on Saturday, December 9 at 6 p.m. After the Green Bay game, WIU heads into a week-plus break for finals, next playing at home on December 18 vs. Eureka College.
