Western Illinois men hit the road for ORU, KC

Leathernecks face Summit-leading Golden Eagles on Thursday

MACOMB -- After snapping a three-game losing streak on Saturday night at Western Hall, the Western Illinois men's basketball team hits the road for a pair of Summit League games looking for their first road victories in conference play. The Leathernecks (9-7 overall, 2-3 in the Summit) visit conference-leading Oral Roberts (13-4, 4-0) on Thursday night in a 7 p.m. tilt, then head to Kansas City (6-11, 2-2) in a 7 p.m. Saturday tip.

Last time out:
The Western Illinois men snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday, topping Denver 91-74 inside Western Hall. Trenton Massner led the way, scoring a season-high 29 point. Alec Rosner also scored a season-high in points, finishing with 28. A late 10-0 run by the Leathernecks after the Pioneers cut the WIU lead to five fueled the win.
 
About the Leathernecks:
Massner comes in leading the team in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game. Rosner adds 15.8 points per game for the cause. Jesiah West contributes 10.9, while Vuk Stevanic adds 10.6 and Quinlan Bennett chips in 8.9. Off the bench, Elijah Farr is scoring 4.9 per game. West leads WIU on the glass with 6.1 rebounds a night.

As a team, WIU is scoring 76.6 per game while allowing 72.3. Western Illinois is shooting 45.8 percent from the floor, including 32.2 from three. Leatherneck foes are making 31.5 percent of their threes while making 45.8 percent overall.
 
About the Golden Eagles:
Oral Roberts comes into the game unbeaten in Summit League play at 4-0. The Golden Eagles lost to nationally-ranked New Mexico on Monday night. Oral Roberts is led by Max Abmas, who averages 20.8 points per game and is grabbing 5.2 rebounds a night. Transfer Connor Vanover adds 12.7 points per game and a team-high 6.5 rebounds. The seven-foot five Vanover has a conference-high 52 blocks this season. Issac McBride adds 11.4 points.

ORU is the highest-scoring team in the Summit, averaging 84.3 points per game this season. The Golden Eagles allow 72.4. Oral Roberts makes 46.9 percent of its shots while holding teams to 42 percent.
 
History:
Oral Roberts leads the all-time series vs. Western Illinois, 39-12. ORU has won six of the last seven against the Leathernecks, including taking two of three last year. WIU won the last game between the two teams in Tulsa though, winning 90-85 in the Mabee Center last February.
 
About the Roos:
Kansas City comes enters the week 6-11 overall, 2-2 in the Summit. The Roos host St. Thomas on Thursday. RayQuawndis Mitchell leads Kansas City, scoring 18.2 points per game. Shemarri Allen adds 16.2 while Anderson Kopp scores 13.0.  Allen David Mukeba Jr. is among the league leaders with 7.9 rebounds per game.

Kansas City is scoring 66.2 per game while allowing an average of 67.1. The Roos are shooting 40.4 percent from the field while opponents are making 40.1. Kansas City makes 29.7 percent of its threes while allowing opponents to make 33.4.
 
History:
Kansas City leads the all-time series 29-17. The Roos have won the last three vs. the Leathernecks, including sweeping the three games last year. Western Illinois last won at Kansas City on Dec. 1, 2012, 68-63.
 
Fast facts:
Massner ranks fifth in the Summit League in points per game (16.4) while Rosner is seventh (15.8). West is eigth in the league in rebounds per game while Massner is 12th. Rosner is third in the league in FG% (46.6) and second in 3-pt % (42.5). Massner is fourth in FG% (43.9) and 3-PT% (35.5). Massner's 5.7 assists per game lead the Summit League as do his 1.9 steals per game. West's 1.9 blocks per game rank second.
 
What's next:
After the road games this week, the Leathernecks return to Macomb for four-straight home games. WIU hosts St. Thomas (Jan. 21), North Dakota (Jan. 23), South Dakota (Jan. 26) and South Dakota State (Jan. 28).
