Western Illinois announces broadcast partnership with Q98.1 for football and men’s basketball

| By:
Western Illinois athletics is excited to announce its continuing partnership with Q98.1 FM out of Canton, Illinois to bring Leatherneck fans all the football and men's basketball action for the 2022 season.

BJ Stone provides play-by-play while Dr. Tom Cody returns as analyst on the football side, starting with the season opener September 1 at Tennessee-Martin. The station will also carry Leatherneck men's basketball games this winter with Stone providing play-by-play.

"I am excited to continue our partnership with Q98.1 as the Voice of the Leathernecks for Central Illinois," said Paul A. Bubb, Director of Athletics. "I am confident our broadcast team of BJ Stone and Dr. Tom Cody will do a great job making our fans feel as if they were at the game."

Fans can listen on their radio at 98.1 FM or log-on to www.q981fm.com to listen online. The Q98.1 app is also available on both the Apple and Google Play stores for those wishing to listen on their mobile device throughout the season.

"At Q98.1, we're very honored to continue as the flagship radio station for WIU football and men's basketball," Matt Moore, Managing Partner of Q98.1, said. "During our inaugural season broadcasting the games, it was a privilege to help so many WIU fans and alumni reconnect with the university through WIU Athletics across our 80-mile coverage area and across the country via our app and streaming platform.

"Under the direction of Coach Hendrickson and Athletic Director Paul Bubb, we believe the WIU Football program is heading towards exciting times and we look forward to bringing a play-by-play account of each game to the fans and alumni again this season on Q98.1 and Q981FM.com."

This is the second season Western Illinois partners with Q98.1 to bring fans Leatherneck gameday action, with this season marking Stone's first on the mic.

"I'm extremely excited to take over handling play-by-play for the Leathernecks and working with Dr. Tom Cody," Stone said. "I love Tom's passion for his Leathernecks. I've known about WIU football since the 80's when I lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and I see big things ahead for the program and for the school under Coach Hendrickson and a return to the winning ways this program is known for.

"Being in the premier conference in the FCS is something I do want to express through the broadcasts to the fans...this football is as good as it gets at this level, and the broadcasts will be fun and exciting. Fans can expect to hear about what is going on at the University outside of athletics, and we'll have features about the players that will let the listeners get to know them a bit better."

The Leathernecks open the season at Tennessee-Martin on Thursday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m.
