Leathernecks accept bid to play in The Basketball Classic

Western Illinois season continues vs. Texas-El Paso

For the first time since the 2012-13 campaign, basketball season continues for the Western Illinois men's basketball program after the Summit League Tournament.
On Monday, the Leathernecks accepted a bid to play in the 2022 Basketball Classic Tournament.
Western Illinois (16-15) opens postseason play on the road facing Texas-El Paso (19-13) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
The Basketball Classic Tournament presented by Eracism is the former CollegeInsider.com Tournament and features 32 mid-major programs from around the country competing in a single-elimination, bracketed tournament.
The game was announced Monday morning.
Western Illinois last participated in a basketball postseason tournament at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, playing Purdue in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
The Leathernecks fell to the Boilermakers, 81-67.
Western Illinois also played postseason basketball after the 2011-12 season, falling to Oregon State 80-59 in the opening round of the CBI.
Western Illinois has never won a post-league tournament game since transitioning to Division I at the beginning of the 1981-82 season.
The Basketball Classic will be held at on-campus sites with the semifinals scheduled for March 29 and the finals March 31.
All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
