Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Freshman Leads the Way at SDSU

KJ Lee recorded a career-high, team-high 15 points in Brookings.

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Western Illinois men's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 91-66 to South Dakota State Thursday (Feb. 17). Freshman KJ Lee led the Leathernecks with a career-high 15 points, while Trenton Massner added 14 and Cameron Burrell 10.

The Leathernecks were quite effective with the 3-ball in the opening minutes of the Summit League contest, as attempts by Colton Sandage and Will Carius knotted the score at 9-all near the 15-minute mark. Unfortunately, it was also a triple that kickstarted a 19-0 SDSU run. The team, undefeated in Summit action this season, maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way while shooting 63.3 percent from the field, with an 11-for-20 clip from behind the arc.

With a 43.9 percent effort itself, Western Illinois also shot the ball well; however, 18 turnovers (one shy of its season-high) and the Jacks' success proved troublesome.

Western has one final road contest on its regular-season schedule with a 4 p.m. tip at South Dakota Saturday (Feb. 19).
