Leathernecks Head to South Dakota Wednesday

The Leathernecks look to sweep the regular-season series.

GAME TWENTY-TWO

When | Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m. CT
Where | Sanford Coyote Sports - Vermillion, S.D.
TV | ESPN+ / MIDCOSM

Series History | The Coyotes lead the all-time series, 12-9, but were shocked in the previous meeting, as Western's starters all finished in double-figures in an 82-75, Summit-opening victory (December 29).

Zion Young | team-high 21 points (all in the second half), game-high nine rebounds
Kobe Webster | 18 points, seven assists
C.J. Duff | 12 points, seven rebounds
Ben Pyle | 11 points, eight boards
James Claar | 10 points, seven rebounds

The win also cemented their first league-opening success since the 2016-17 season.

The Last Time Out | James Claar has enjoyed playing against Purdue Fort Wayne this season, so much so that in both meetings, he left with a new career-high. The senior recorded 20 points Wednesday night (February 5) behind 6-for-6 shooting from the floor, 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, but the final resulted in a 75-69 loss.

WIU was down by three with 6:50 left to play.

Down, But Not Out | The Leathernecks nearly a pair of remarkable comebacks in their recent outings against the league co-leader South Dakota State and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Western trimmed a 20-point deficit down to one with 3:01 left versus the former and trailed by as many as 17 against the latter. The PFW matchup fell within five points until the last 2:14.

Mr. Consistency | In his four-year tenure, C.J. Duff has appeared and started in 107 games. He has missed just one outing in his career -- the November 20 matchup versus UT Martin earlier this season -- after requiring oral surgery for an injury suffered at Indiana.

Joe Dykstra (1978-83) holds the program record for most games started at 112 while Ceola Clark III (2008-13) is the record holder for 124 games played.

Tip-Ins
  • Kyle Arrington has started the last two contests for Western while Anthony Jones earned his first career start at Purdue Fort Wayne
  • C.J. Duff manages 983 career points and is on the cusp of becoming the second leatherneck to score his 1,000th this season
  • Kobe Webster has reached double-figures in every Summit game this season and averages 15.2 points in league play
