No. 43 Denver Downs Leathernecks, 7-0

Western resumes play Saturday (April 20) against Lindenwood-St.Charles.

GALESBURG, Ill – The No. 43 Denver Pioneers defeated the Western Illinois women's tennis team 7-0 in the final Summit League match of the season on Saturday morning (April 13). 

The five-time reigning Summit League champions took the doubles point as Mia Melnizki, and Anouk Maajong lost 6-1 in the No. 1 spot and clinched the 1-0 lead after Megan Tagaloa and Camryn Rossa were just edged 6-4. 

Western was then swept in singles action. Ana Bjelica lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Mary Bjelica dropped 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 to give Denver a 3-0 advantage. The Pioneers clinched the match in No. 1 singles as the No.104 ranked player, Bianca Monk defeated Melnzki 6-0, 6-4. Tagaloa (No. 5) and Rossa (No. 6) each played out their matches and both lost 6-0, 6-0. 

Western Illinois concludes the season at home against Lindenwood-St. Charles on April 20 with first serve at 1 p.m.
