Bison Claim Series Opener; Doubleheader Scheduled For Sunday, March 31

Due to weather, a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. is scheduled to close out the series on Sunday, March 31

MACOMB, Ill.- A seven-run top of the fifth-inning sealed a 12-0 shortened victory for North Dakota State (22-11, 4-0) over Western Illinois (8-15, 1-3) softball on Saturday, March 30. Due to overnight rain and impending weather, the start time was delayed from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
 
Emily Ira (5-6) racked up four strikeouts through two innings in a scoreless game. The Bison struck first in the top of the third inning followed by a Cara Beatty three-run homer over the right field fence.
 
Montana DeCamp hit a solo shot over the wall in dead center as North Dakota led 5-0 after four innings. NDSU used a two-out walk and five consecutive hits to plate seven runs to eventually end the contest after five innings of play. Danielle Olson recorded the lone Western hit.
 
Since only one game was played, a doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning (March 31).
