The Series | Western and Stetson's men's basketball teams met for the first time last season, where the Leathernecks fell by a score of 68-64 in DeLand.
Western's Last Outing | WIU took to the big stages for its 2019-20 season-opener and fell 98-65 to the Indiana Hoosiers, in front of a packed Assembly Hall crowd (17,222).
Kobe Webster guided the Leathernecks with 18 points while Zion Young added 12, highlighted by a perfect 8-for-8 performance at the free-throw line. Newcomers Jaeden King, Kyle Arrington, Roderick Smith, and Jack Hallee all made their Western debuts.
Scouting the Hatters | Stetson and newly-named head coach Donnie Jones opened their 2019 slate with an 84-26 victory over Trinity Baptist College. Four Hatters recorded at least two blocks en route to 11 on the night, which marked the most by a Stetson team in 15 years.
Junior guard Christiaan Johnson led the attack with 23 points and was joined in double figures by freshman Mahamadou Diawara who added 10.
The Road to 1K | Only 23 have eclipsed 1K points in their Leatherneck men's basketball careers, and Webster currently ranks 27th with 990. He recorded a team-high 18 points in Western's season-opener at Indiana to post his 32nd career game as the team's scoring leader.
Senior C.J. Duff currently manages 790 points.
For Threeeeee | The Leathernecks have made a 3-pointer in 133 straight contests and recorded at least six in 27 games a season ago.
The team ranked 16th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage last season, and return one of their more accurate shooters in C.J. Duff. The senior drilled eight triples against Purdue Fort Wayne last year, one shy of tying Western's single-game record, and crowned the season shooting 42.2 percent (57-135).
