Leathernecks in the NFL

Khalen Saunders made his NFL regular-season debut this past Sunday.

MACOMB, Ill. Khalen Saunders wore #99 for the Western Illinois University football team, and the number is also embroidered in his uniform for the Kansas City Chiefs. This past Sunday (Oct. 6), the defensive tackle made his National Football League (NFL) regular-season debut.

Saunders made his appearance in week five action against the Indianapolis Colts and finished the matchup with a solo tackle. KC drafted the 6-foot, 324-pounder 84th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He graduated from Western with a bachelor's degree in general studies in December 2018 and left the program on season-highs in tackles (72) and tackles for loss (13). Saunders earned All-American honors during the 2018 campaign -- Second Team Associated Press and First Team STATS FCS – and was also named First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference.

The Chiefs sit atop the AFC West with an overall record of 4-1 and return to play Thursday, Nov. 13, against the Houston Texans.
