Cassimire Selected to Lead Western’s External Engagement & Game Operations

Diane Cassimire was named the Assistant Athletic Director for External Engagement and Game Operations.

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois University welcomed Diane Cassimire to its athletic department Friday (Aug. 10) where she will serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Engagement and Game Operations. The Iowa native returns to the Midwest after eight years at New York University.
 
Cassimire will be responsible for all marketing and promotional efforts for the Leathernecks' athletic department while also overseeing gameday and facilities' operations.
 
"I'm excited to be joining the Leatherneck family and am anxious to promote this amazing department and its student-athletes," said Cassimire. "Western has such a unique atmosphere and it's an honor to bring my family back to the Midwest to be a part of the WIU community."
 
"Diane will be a great addition to our staff. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the department on game operations as well as the marketing and promotions fronts," said Interim Director of Athletics Danielle Surprenant. "She understands the importance of external engagement, and I'm excited to see what new and innovative ideas she will bring to the department." 
 
As the facilities and events director at NYU, Cassimire managed Coles Sports Center, which served 1 million patrons a year, in addition to coordinating events for the Violets' fencing, basketball, soccer, track and field, cross country, volleyball and wrestling programs.
 
With 10-plus years of experience under her belt, she has covered major events from conference tournaments to NCAA regionals (gymnastics and softball) and opening rounds (women's basketball).
 
In external relations, she implemented a new branding and promotions guide at NYU (Violet Nation) and was also responsible for its social media communication. She was the brainstorm behind the Violets' first-ever free basketball clinic for National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and also assisted several community and campus groups to create charity drives and annual events.
 
Prior to her time at NYU, Cassimire earned a graduate assistantship with Adelphi University's department of campus recreation and interned at her alma mater the University of Iowa.
 
She is a member of the Women Leaders in College Sports, Women Leaders Institute for Administrative Advancement East and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
 
Cassimire earned a bachelor's degree at Iowa in recreational management and a master's in sports business management at NYU.
