Men's Basketball Earns NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

WIU was one of two programs from the Summit League

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The Western Illinois men's basketball program was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for its academic achievement with a spot on the 2017-18 Team Academic Excellence Awards list, the association announced today (July 11).

"I'm proud of the way our guys embrace the expectations that come with being a Division I student-athlete. Academic Achievement is a big part of our ALLIN philosophy, and to be recognized by the NABC as one of their Team Academic Excellence Award winners is a credit to the players, the people here at Western Illinois University and the resources available to all students," said head coach Billy Wright.

The men's basketball program earned a 3.21 team GPA for the 2017-18 academic year including a 3.19 GPA for the spring semester. The Leathernecks and the North Dakota State Bison were the only two programs representing the Summit League on the list.

This is not the first academic honor the Leathernecks have touted this week as C.J. Duff, Brandon Gilbeck, Jordan Hughes, Ryan Maas, Chris Snyder and Kobe Webster were named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll on July 10.
