Ancrum, Webster Lead Surge Over Oral Roberts

Ancrum ended with a game-high 25 points while Webster added 20 points and six rebounds.

MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois was only down for a total of 43 seconds in Saturday's 82-56 win against Oral Roberts. The win was the largest margin of victory over a league opponent since January 8, 1997 against Chicago State (35).

"It was a total team effort, give our guys' credit. We talked about character, integrity, 'Tradition of Tough' and 'All In.' We didn't play well Thursday night and it was a quick turnaround," said head coach Billy Wright. We just looked at the film and things that we needed to do. Give our kids all of the credit, they came out and executed the gameplan on both ends of the floor."

Kobe Webster got the scoring started early for the Leathernecks as Jalen Morgan found Webster on the outside for three. WIU jumped out to a quick 15-9 lead behind two Webster 3-pointers and four points from Dalan Ancrum.

After an ensuing Golden Eagle trifecta, the Leathernecks went on an 11-0 run that comprised of five points from Ancrum, and two from Webster, Brandon Gilbeck and Jalen Morgan.

With 1:13 remaining in the first half, Webster made a move at the free-throw line, made the defender fall, knocked down the jumper and ignited the crowd inside Western Hall. The basket put the Leathernecks up by 19 just before the half.

The break did not cool off the Purple and Gold, as WIU started the second half on an 11-6 run headlined by two Gilbeck jump hook shots.

The first Western Illinois turnover did not come until 11:47 in the second half on a offensive foul. WIU ended the game with five turnovers, a season-low. The middle of the second half was back-and-forth as the lead never wavered from between 19-24 points in favor of the Leathernecks.

The game ended on a 11-4 run for WIU, as Delo Bruster put in five points in the final five minutes of the contest.
