Leathernecks Eclipse 100 Points in Non-conference Action

Five Leathernecks finished in double figures.

MACOMB, Ill. –  Heading into the thick of its Summit League schedule, the Western Illinois University men's basketball team (9-7) took a break from conference play Saturday to play host to Oak Hill Christian (2-14). The contest ended 107-45, in favor of WIU, marking the second time this season Western has eclipsed 100 points in a game.

Five Leathernecks scored in double figures with two notching double-doubles. Brandon Gilbeck recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds while Lynrick Moxey, coming off of the bench, added 17 and 10, respectively.

All available Leathernecks saw action.

"Any time you can get some guys some confidence by seeing the ball go through the hole, but most importantly, getting some defensive stops, we can start from that. It's not who you play, it's how you play," said head coach Billy Wirght. "We want to play efficiently from both ends of the court, and I thought we did that tonight."

The Leathernecks led the entire contest after starting the evening with seven unanswered points. They ended the night shooting 50-plus percent in field goals (56.0), three pointers (60.0), and free throws (56.7).

The last time Western performed that well in all three categories was in its 90-69 victory over Milwaukee on Dec. 9.

WIU held a 20-point edge, 46-26, at halftime, before outscoring Oak Hills, 61-19, in the latter period.

Kobe Webster finished the night with 18 points and five rebounds, while both Issac Johnson and Jalen Morgan recorded 10 points.

The Leathernecks return to conference play Wednesday in a 7 p.m. contest against Fort Wayne.
