WIU Topped On The Road By Butler

The Leathernecks are back in action against Lincoln Christian in Western Hall on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS - Western Illinois fell Thursday (Dec. 21) to Butler in Hinkle Fieldhouse, 107-46.

"They had really good pressure early. Defensively, we had some miscues. We had worked on going over top of ball screens, but we did not early and they hit a couple 3-pointers and it just snowballed from there," said head coach Billy Wright.

The Leathernecks and Bulldogs were knotted at two before Butler went on a 14-0 run, seizing control of the contest.

With 15:40 in the first half, Jalen Morgan hit back-to-back jumpers to make the score 16-6. The Leathernecks could not put out a fiery hot Butler squad. The Bulldogs ended the game with 18 3-pointers, shooting at a 58 percent clip.

Kobe Webster ended the half with a shifty move on the baseline that put the score at 49-22 at the break. Brandon Gilbeck began the scoring in the second half for Western as he finished a hook shot in the paint.

The Bulldogs didn't cool off in the second half, netting nine second half 3-point shots. Morgan scored seven of his 11 points during the final 20 minutes, and he finished as the lone Leatherneck in double figures. C.J. Duff registered nine points while Charles Gavin recorded a career-high with seven rebounds.

WIU is off for 10 days, getting back on the court on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) at 2 p.m. against Lincoln Christian inside Western Hall.
