5 Things to Know for Saturday

Homecoming 2016 set for Saturday

Western Illinois football returns to Hanson Field this Saturday for Homecoming 2016, playing host to Indiana State in Missouri Valley Football Conference play.

The 13th-ranked Leathernecks' game will be the MVFC 'Game of the Week'. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Here are 5 Things You Need to Know for the game.

1. Tailgating Policies
The Leatherneck Club tailgate area in Q-Lot officially opens at 10 a.m. Leatherneck Club members at the Varsity level and above have access to preferred parking. For more information on rules and regulations for the 2016 season, including the No Pets Rule, click on the Tailgate Policy section.

2. Welcome Home
Western Illinois University celebrates Homecoming 2016 this week. The theme is "Rocky in Space: Our Pride is Out of This World". For a list of events, including the Parade on Saturday morning, click on the WIU Homecoming homepage. This year's Grand Marshal is Leatherneck Football standout Mike Wagner. He won four Super Bowl championships with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s.

3.  Leatherneck Walk
Head coach Charlie Fisher and the Leathernecks will walk near the tailgate area (between Q-Lot and the Rec Center) to their locker room inside Western Hall around 12:45 p.m. and then later to the field. Fans are encouraged to line the pathway from the Hanson Field service gate to the locker room for this new 'Leatherneck Walk' tradition.

4. Purple Platoon Seating
The student group Purple Platoon will have preferred seating on the West side of Hanson Field in the section that will be marked with the banner. Purple Platoon is open to all WIU students and membership is free. New members who haven't received their t-shirt can pick them up at the tent. Free food will be available, along with face and body painting. The pregame tailgate tent will be located in the south side of Q-Lot in the last row (look for the Purple Platoon purple tent). For more information, click on the Purple Platoon website or follow on Twitter (@WIUPlatoon), Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram (PurplePlatoon).
