Juniors Jennifer Garcia and Amy Douglas each went 2-for-3 and collected one run apiece, but it wasn?t enough for the Western Illinois softball team to tally a win as it fell by the scores of 2-1 and 5-1 in doubleheader action at Saint Louis.The Westerwinds (16-29-1) and Billikens (18-29) held one another scoreless throughout the first four innings of game one before Saint Louis collected two runs in the fifth. Kara Sell reached on a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jody Herbert. Jill Pursell tripled down the left field line for the RBI, and then scored on an RBI single by Christy Ernst.Western?s lone run of the game came in the following inning as Garcia doubled to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Senior Meghan Strazar reached on a walk, and as Strazar attempted to steal second base, Garcia crossed the plate for Western?s only run.Redshirt freshman Kamren Ferguson fell to 8-10 on the season with the loss. Ferguson collected a game-high eight strikeouts and allowed just two runs (both earned) on six hits. Saint Louis? Ashley Levan (11-10) recorded the win after allowing one run on seven hits.Game two started off on a different note than the first as Saint Louis rattled off five runs in the first two innings of the game. Douglas notched Western?s final run of the day in the seventh inning after leading off with a double to left center. Douglas advanced to third on a single by senior Ashley Gilland and crossed the plate on a wild pitch.The Billikens out-hit the Westerwinds 12-5 in the final game of the twinbill, and each team recorded one error.Junior Christine Drankiewicz went the distance for Western but fell to 4-11 with the loss. The Billikens? Lorena Floccari (7-19) collected the win.The Westerwinds will now return home for their final home series of the year against Mid-Con opponent Valparaiso. Action at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium will begin at 2:30 p.m. Friday and Noon Saturday.
