MACOMB, Ill. - Senior Maureen Troller went 2-for-3 with one run and a double, but it wasn?t enough for the Western Illinois softball team to pull off a come-from-behind win as Iowa won the midweek contest 5-2 at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium.Western (15-21-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as leadoff batter Lindsey Hession reached on a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Amy Douglas. Senior Meghan Strazar collected her team-high 24th RBI of the season as she sent Hession across the plate on a single.Iowa (26-14) recorded a series of trios with three runs on three hits in the third inning to reclaim the lead 3-1. The Westerwinds looked to bounce back in the fourth inning, but were only able to come up with one additional run for the game. Troller led off the inning with her 13th double of the season, and moved to third on an error by Iowa?s right fielder. Junior Nicole Green followed with an RBI double of her own to score Troller.The Hawkeyes put together a two-run inning in the sixth off of one hit and one Westerwinds error for the final 5-2 victory.Western out-hit Iowa 7-5, yet fell defensively with four costly errors to the Hawkeyes? lone fielding mistake.Sophomore Kamren Ferguson (8-7) tossed four hitless innings for Western, but recorded her seventh loss of the season after allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits and striking out eight while walking just two.Iowa?s Ali Arnold improved to 9-6 on the season with the win, and combined with Brittany Weil for seven strikeouts and one walk.Western will continue home action with seven-straight home games that begin with this weekend?s four-game Mid-Con series against Southern Utah. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
