MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois women's basketball team clinched its fourth consecutive Mid-Continent Conference Championship tonight after defeating Chicago State, 63-45, in Western Hall.With just a three-point lead of 9-6 with 13:41 on the clock, Western Illinois (21-4, 13-2 Mid-Con) went on a 25-8 run to increase its lead to 34-14 with 3:50 left in the first half and went on to a maintain a 20-point lead over Chicago State (11-14, 6-8 Mid-Con) at the half, 36-16.Chicago State outscored Western, 10-6, in the first six minutes of the second half to cut Western's lead to 16 points, 42-26, with 14:19 to go, but Western was able to hold at least a 17-point advantage en route to the 63-45 win.Senior Zane Teilane led all players with 16 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the floor and added a game-high 15 rebounds and six blocked shots. Sophomore Stephanie Lovingood came off the bench and was 6-for-7 from the floor for 13 points.Zondranika Williams led Chicago State with eight points by way of 3-for-6 shooting from the floor and 1-for-3 shooting from the three-point line.Western Illinois outscored Chicago State, 32-18, in the paint and won the battle of the boards, 32-29. Western also outshot the Cougars from the floor 52.2 (24-46) percent to 32.7 (17-52) percent.Western Illinois will end the 2005-06 regular season and will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts UMKC on Monday, February 27 at 7 p.m. in Western Hall.
