CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior all-America candidate Zane Teilane led all players with 22 points and senior Samantha Greer added 10 rebounds as the Western Illinois women's basketball team defeated Chicago State, 62-49.With 5:52 to go, junior Rachel Reed hit a lay-up that sparked a 15-2 Western Illinois (14-2, 6-0 Mid-Con) run en route to a 62-49 win.Western Illinois jumped out to a 16-8 lead with 12:36 to go in the first half. Chicago State (7-10, 204 Mid-Con) used a 12-3 run to take its first lead of the game, 20-19, with 8:45 on the clock. Freshman Jameka McElroy scored on a lay-up to put Western back up by one, 21-20. However, the Cougars used four free throws and lay-up to take a 25-21 lead with 6:30 left in the half. Western Illinois outscored Chicago State, 8-2, in the final six minutes to go into the half tied, 29-29.Chicago State broke a 29-29 tie at the start of the second half with a Tina Hill three-pointer to give the Cougars a 32-29 advantage. Western answered with nine straight points to take a 38-32 lead with 16:57 to go. However, Chicago State went on a 6-0 run to tie it back up at 38-38. Western went on to outscore Chicago State, 24-13, in the final 13:31 of the game.Western outscored Chicago State 53.2 (25-47) percent to 32.1 (18-56) percent from the floor and outrebounded the Cougars, 41-26.Teilane was 11-for-15 from the floor for her 22 points and added eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Greer added five points and a game-high 10 rebounds, Reed scored 12 points and senior Laura Reeves added 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assits.Hill led Chicago State with 18 points on 7-for-22 shooting from the floor.Western Illinois continues its two-game road trip at Southern Utah Monday night.
