Leathernecks Fall at Buzzer to Chicago State, 75-73.

CHICAGO - Michael Henderson tipped in Royce Parran's in-bounds pass at the buzzer as Chicago State upended Western Illinois, 75-73. The Leathernecks (5-13, 1-6) fought back from an early deficit of 11 points to trail by five at halftime, 32-27, then scored seven of the first nine points of the second half to erase the deficit completely and tie the game at 34. The second half saw six ties and 12 lead changes as neither team led by more than five. Free throws by Sean Blalock gave Western a three-point lead with 24 seconds to play and again 10 seconds later, but a tip-in by the Cougars' Kourtney Calvin cut the Leathernecks' lead to one, 72-71, with eight seconds left. Fred Oguns hit one of two free thows with six seconds on the clock to push Western's lead up to two, but Parran tied the game with a pair of free throws with 2.3 seconds remaining. The Leathernecks couldn't get the ball in-bounds after the free throws, turning it over to the Cougars under their own basket. "You can't pin this on any one play," said head coach Derek Thomas. "We had our chances. They made plays on their end and we missed some crucial free throws. "We just couldn't push it to a two-possession game, and when that happens you leave the game in someone else's hands. The guys absolutely played their butts off tonight. I'm very disappointed for them."The Leathernecks were led by Oguns, who scored 16 points, and Chris Gonzalez, who tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from long range. A box score was unavailable after the game but will be uploaded as soon as possible.
