Here was a team who outplayed us 4-0 last season, and in fact, had dominated the all-time series against us and played in the NCAA Tournament last season. This was a benchmark for us to work toward.?Western was led in shots by Ruypers with five. Gans led Creighton with seven shots with three being on goal.?We are all extremely excited about the possibilities and opportunities that are open to this team after today?s game,? Sherry said. I am extremely proud of them, and I told the team that this should now inspire them to better and greater things.? Geurts recorded five saves for Western Illinois, while Casey collected two for Creighton. The Bluejays held the advantage in shots (18-13) and corner kicks (8-5) for the match.?Our next challenge will be our toughest of the season as we travel to Illinois, an Elite Eight team last season,? Sherry said. This is another opportunity for us to measure up against a higher benchmark. After Illinois, we will have a better understanding of what needs to be done for Western Illinois to become an Elite Eight team.?Western Illinois will return to action for its first road test of the season as the Westerwinds travel to Champaign, Ill., to tangle with the Fighting Illini of Illinois. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. from the Illinois Track and Soccer Stadium.
