Women's Basketball Defeated by Missouri State, 46-41

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Senior all-America candidate Zane Teilane recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 46-41 loss at Missouri State.Missouri State (3-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half, only to see it slip away with a Laura Reeves' three-pointer and a DeeDee Murphy jumper that put Western (5-2) up, 5-4, with 15:40 to go in the half. However, Western's lead didn't last long thanks to an 11-2 run by the Lady Bears that put Missouri State up, 15-7. Back-to-back three?s by Reeves and Murphy cut Missouri State's lead to two, 15-13, with 7:11 to go in the half, but the Lady Bears outscored Western, 9-6, to head in to the half with a 24-20 lead.The Lady Bears jumped out to a seven-point lead on a Sarah Klaassen three-pointer and a Kayli Combs jumper to take a 29-22 lead. However, Western answered with jumpers from Samantha Greer and Rachel Reed to cut the lead to 29-26 with 17:42 to go. Western went on to outscore Missouri State, 12-10, over the next 14 minutes cutting the lead to just one, 39-38, with 5:12 to go, but a Kari Koch three-pointer gave Missouri State the momentum to maintain at least a three-point lead en route to the 46-41 win.Western outscored Missouri State, 34.9 (15-43) percent to 32.6 (15-46) percent, and won the battle of the boards, 35-30. Western also outscored the Lady Bears in the paint, 14-10, but gave up 15 points on its 21 turnovers.Teilane also recorded eight blocked shots and five assists to go with her 12 points and 10 rebounds.Koch led all players with 22 points on 6-for-15 shooting from the field.Western Illinois will wrap up its three-game road trip when it heads to St. Louis to take on Saint Louis Saturday, December 10 at 2:05 p.m.Western Illinois Game Notes- Senior Zane Teilane recorded her 29th career double-double and fifth of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.- Sophomore Gina Hugelier played a career-high 14 minutes against Missouri State.- Junior Rachel Reed recorded a season-high five steals against the Lady Bears.
