Western Illinois swimming student-athlete Marissa Purdum has been selected as the WIU Hampton Inn Scholar Athlete of the Week for her performance during The Summit League Championships from Feb. 15-18 in Indianapolis. 

Purdum registered two different top-10 all-time program times during The Summit League Championships. Her 24.37 sprint in the 50-free is the seventh-best in school history, while her 100-free mark of 53.30 is the eighth-fastest in WIU history. 

The Burlington, Iowa native also helped three different relay teams to top-three times in school history at The Summit League Championships. She was a member of 200-free relay team that set the second-best mark in event in program history (1:37.62) and also helped the 400-free relay squad record the second-best time (3:32.44) in school history. Purdum was also part of the 800-free relay team that hit second-best time (7:46.50) in WIU history.
 
The sophomore biology major currently owns a 3.361 GPA.
