Junior diver Melanie Pearson has been named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.
On Friday, November 6, Pearson set a pool record with a 413.90 score in the 1-meter dive. The junior set one of three pool records for the Leathernecks that day, and helped the Western Illinois women's team triumph over Valparaiso 138-69.Â
A native of Franklin, Wis., Pearson has also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.672 overall GPA. During her freshman year at Western Illinois, she was named a 2013-14 Summit League Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll Distinguished Scholar. She was also named to the 2015 Summit League Spring Academic Honor Roll.Â
