Sophomore quarterback Trenton Norvell (Daytona Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) was named Papa John’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 2). It was the first weekly award of the academic year.
 
Norvell set two career-highs and matched another following the 45-6 season-opening win over Valparaiso. He set new personal highs in completion percentage and yards while matching his best effort in touchdown passes.
 
He completed 20-of-28 passes, including six of 20-plus yards to six different receivers, for 320 yards and four TDs. Norvell became the first Leatherneck quarterback to surpass 300 passing yards in three years, and he matched his TD passing total from the Missouri State game last year.
 
Norvell owns a 3.15 GPA majoring in Marketing.
