Western Illinois softball player Sammy Marshall (Naperville, Illinois) has been named Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday (April 28) for her performances on the field this past week, and continued success in the classroom.

Marshall was named The Summit League's 'Player of the Week' on Monday after hitting .545 against South Dakota. The Leatherneck shortstop hit one double and one triple over the weekend, and recorded her 228th career base hit, a new Western Illinois record. The senior was also named the 2014-15 Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year at Western Illinois' WESPYS.

Marshall holds a 3.424 GPA as an Exercise Science major.
