Western Illinois softball player Tierney Bottino (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) has been named Papa John's Scholar-Athlete of the Week Monday (Feb. 9) for her performance on the field this past week, and continued success in the classroom.
Bottino led Western Illinois to a 2-2 record at the Total Control Sports Invitational to begin the 2015 season. The junior hit .455 (5-for-11) with four RBI during the opening weekend.
Against Syracuse, Bottino collected two RBI, including a single to right in the seventh to cut Western's deficit to 4-3. Bottino also drew three walks on the weekend, including two in the weekend finale against North Dakota.
Bottino has a 3.433 GPA while majoring in Biology. The Lockport, Illinois native desires to be a physical therapist.
