Highlighting several box scores as both a return specialist and wide receiver, football’s Tony Tate was named a Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete for the month of September.
 
In three games, he ranked third on the team with 18.8 yards per reception (188 total yards) while also scoring one of the Western’s two touchdowns at Illinois. He also averaged 18.4 yards on eight kick returns.
 
What is your favorite part about playing football at WIU?
 
I really enjoy being close to home so that my family and friends are able to attend games
 
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
 
An ice bath the night before each game and  prayer right before the game starts
 
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
 
Odell Beckham Jr because of how passionate he is about the game and I feel like we have similar play types as far as how he uses his speed and elusiveness
 
What has been your favorite part of being in Macomb?
 
Being a part of a great football team and Leatherneck nation
 
What are you plans after graduation?
 
My plan after graduation is to go to the NFL.
 
What is your dream job?
 
Play wide receiver for the Bears or a team in California.
 
What is your favorite dessert?
 
My favorite dessert is Italian bread pudding
