MACOMB, Ill.—
In the third-largest margin of victory in program history, the Western Illinois Leathernecks were able to defeat Illinois College 122-40 Saturday (Nov. 12) inside Western Hall.

The Leathernecks, once again, had six score in double figures for the second straight game. Sophomore guard Olivia Kaufmann had a career day, as she led the team with 24 points and was 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. Morgan Blumer followed with 22, while Grace Gilmore (16), Taylor Hanneman (15), Emily Clemens (14) and Taylor Higginbotham (14) all added double-digit scoring performances.

Western got things started off with a 28-0 run over a 7:11 span in the first quarter to lead 32-7 after one. The Leathernecks saw a 30-point halftime lead turn into an 89-29 score by the end of the third. All 10 active players on the roster were able to score, along with Krishna Merriman and Gilmore, who both recorded their first collegiate field goals.

"Those games can be difficult and we appreciate Illinois College coming over and playing," said head coach JD Gravina. "In that second quarter, it can be hard to keep up that intensity and there is a difference between wanting the ball and it becoming an afterthought. Once we picked up that urgency, I think we got what we wanted out of it. It was a good experience for some of those younger kids on a couple of different rotations. I was really happy with it."

Prior to the game, all of the coaches and players from the 2016-17 championship roster were honored with a ring and banner ceremony.

Western Illinois has a quick turnaround, as they play host to William Woods Tuesday (Nov. 14) at 7 p.m. inside Western Hall.
