Women's Basketball Inks Two on Signing Day

Sam Pryor and Andi Pierce set to join Letherneck family after signing National Letters of Intent

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's basketball head coach JD Gravina announced the signing of guards Sam Pryor and Andi Pierce on Thursday, November 12. Pryor and Pierce, who will both wrap up their prep careers this spring, will join the Leatherneck family in the fall of 2016.
 
"Sam and Andi are both prototypical WIU players, tall, athletic, guards that are incredibly versatile," said Gravina. "Both of them can handle the ball, shoot it, pass and attack the basket. If we can put a group of playmakers like them on the floor together, we are going to be a really tough team to guard. I can't wait for them to join our squad next season."
 
Pryor, a 6'0" guard, is a native of Elgin, Illinois. A member of Burlington Central High School, Pryor was an All-Conference selection as a junior and an All-Area honoree the past three seasons. As a sophomore, Pryor was named Second Team AP All-State, and Third Team IBCA All-State. As a junior, she repeated as a Second Team AP All-State selection, while also being named to the IBCA Second Team All-State team.
 
During the course of her junior year, Pryor eclipsed the 1,000 point total in her career, becoming the fourth female in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. As a junior for the Rockets, Pryor averaged 14.4 points per game, eight rebounds per game, 1.2 steals per contest, and three assists a game.
 
Pierce, a 5'11" guard, is a native of Garber, Oklahoma. As a junior for Garber High School, Pierce averaged 23.4 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per contest for the Wolverines. Pierce shot 48 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. Pierce also made a team-high 50 3-pointers, while also leading the team in steals and assists.
 
This year, Piece was named an Oklahoma Vype Top-100 recruit, while also being a two-time CTBsports All-Star. The guard earned Skeltur Conference MVP honors this past season while also being a Class A First Team All-State selection by the Daily Oklahoman. In 2013 and 2014, Pierce was named honorable mention Tulsa World All-State.
 
Gravina and the Leathernecks take to the court this Friday, November 13, for the regular season opener. The Leathernecks play host to Central Methodist, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. inside Western Hall.
