The goalkeeper joins the Swiss Women’s Super League to begin her professional career.

Lugano, Switzerland - After writing her name throughout the record book last season, former Western Illinois women' soccer player Ines Palmiero Herrera has signed a professional contract with FF Lugano 1976.

The club plays in the Swiss Women's Super League, which is the highest-level league in competition for women's soccer clubs in Switzerland. Last year, the club made its inaugural debut in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Women's Champions League.

In her final campaign, she led in the sweep of The Summit League Player of the Week awards for the first time in program history and posted back-to-back shutout performances to begin league play. Additionally, Palmiero-Herrea set season marks for second in minutes in goal, fifth in shutouts, and eighth in wins. A four-year member of the program, she ended her standout career in all-time program marks for third in saves (267), fourth in minutes in goal (4,460), fifth in wins (11) and shutouts (7), and eighth in saves per game (4.87).

Inside the classroom, Palmiero-Herrera was just as dominant. She was a two-time member of the Academic All-League Team and a member of the Summit League Honor Roll. The native of Viladecavalls, Spain, she earned her bachelor's in LEJA and completed her masters of science in public safety this past spring.
