Women’s Soccer Adds Six For 2018 Season

Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson adds six for next season.

MACOMB, Ill. — Six new Leathernecks signed to the 2018 women's soccer roster as announced by Dr. Eric Johnson Wednesday (Feb. 7).

The signees include Ally Hasken, Cassidy Grunewald, Sam Brooks, Sydney Pryor, Madee Bulin and Zoe Clarke.

"We are excited with our incoming group for 2018," said Johnson. "We have a very large group of seniors playing in their last season next fall, and feel this recruiting class will help us fill that void and make us more competitive right away. They are all good students and teammates who share the values that we find important for successful programs."

Johnson adds a trio of teammates from Freeport High School (Freeport, Ill.) in Hasken, Grunewald and Brooks.

Hasken joins the Leathernecks with 48 goals scored through her first three years of play at Freeport. She earned High Honor Roll recognition all four years, and was also named an Illinois State Scholar (2018), First Team All-Conference (2016-17), All-Sectional (2016) and All-State (2017). She is also a four-year starter and a three-year varsity captain, along with being a three-year letterwinner in basketball.

"Ally Hasken can play both in midfield and up top as a target. She has very good feet and is good in possession and going forward," said Johnson.

Grunewald is a four-year varsity letterwinner, along with being a three-time Conference Scholar Athlete (2015-17), an All-Sectional honoree (2016-17), First Team NIC-10 All-Conference (2016-17), All-Star Prep at the Best of Rock River (2016-17), 2015 Regional Champion and the team's Most Valuable Player in 2017. She has 32 career goals with 20 assists, and was also a Sectional Qualifier in cross country, and her team's Most Valuable Runner in 2014.

"Cassidy Grunewald can play out wide on both sides and in all three lines," said Johnson. "She is a very good athlete and can go at people with the ball and defend speedy wingers as well."

Brooks helped her teammates at Freeport High School to 30 total shutouts as a defender. She is a four-year letterwinner and a three-time team captain. She was also All-Sectional, All-Conference and All-Area twice (2016-17). Brooks earned High Honor Roll recognition in 2015, and has made the Honor Roll three straight years (2016-18).

"Sam Brooks is a solid defender, tough in the tackle and can play out of the back," said Johnson. "She is versatile enough to play in a holding midfield role as well."

Pryor hails from Elgin, Ill., at Burlington Central High School. The younger sister of current Leatherneck basketball player Sam Pryor, Sydney earned both High Honor Roll and Honor Roll, along with being a three-time unanimous selection for All-Conference. She is a three-year varsity starter and a four-year varsity athlete for soccer. She helped her team to a stellar 2017 season, which included being: Regional Champions, Sectional Champions, Super-Sectional Champions, and a third-place finish in the state championships.

"Sydney Pryor is a versatile defender or midfielder. She can play anywhere in the back line and as a holding midfielder. She is good in the air and a rugged defender," said Johnson.

Bulin is a transfer from Scott Community College who hails from Eldridge, Iowa. She prepped at North Scott High School, where she earned First Team All-State, All-Conference and All-District honors. As a defender, she is a two-year letterwinner, as well as being a four-year letterwinner for cheerleading. During her time at Scott Community College, she was First Team All-Conference.

"Madee is a good athlete and brings pace, strength and work ethic to the table as a defender. She should adjust quickly to the D1 game and having the spring semester to do that will give her an advantage," said Johnson.

Clarke joins the Leathernecks as a freshman from Tidbury Green Primary School and Bournville College. A native of Birmingham, England, Clarke is a two-time Student of the Year (2012-13) and team captain during her prep career at Woodrush High School, and also served as the captain of the Aston Villa U17 soccer team that reached the FA Youth Cup Final. She also helped the team to a league championship that same season.

"We also added Zoe Clarke at the semester break," said Johnson. "She is an athletic, left footed player who can also play in a lot of different positions but probably is most comfortable as a left back. We are looking forward to bringing them he and all of them into the team and finding out how and where they can help us the most."
