Courtney Lubbers Named Summit League ‘Player of the Week’

The sophomore earns the honor for the second time in her career for her performance this past weekend

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's tennis student-athlete Courtney Lubbers has been named The Summit League's 'Player of the Week', the league office announced on Tuesday (March 8). Lubbers earned the honor after picking up two wins at No. 1 singles against league foe IUPUI and Green Bay this past weekend. She collects the award for the second time in her career and the first time this season.
 
On Saturday's Summit League opener against IUPUI, the sophomore picked up the win over IUPUI's Valeriia Lavrenchuk in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
 
The Wichita, Kansas, native continued her winning ways the following day against Green Bay, cruising to victory at No. 1 singles over Olivia Hedford, 6-3, 6-0. Lubbers and her doubles partner Maria Bessmertnaya also sealed the win at No. 1 doubles, defeating their Phoenix opponent 6-4.
 
Lubbers and the rest of the women's tennis squad are back in action on Saturday, March 12, as they host Missouri State in Galesburg, Illinois at noon. The team will then travel to St. Louis for a matchup against Maryville University the following day, with first serve set for 1 p.m.
