Orsy Gonzalez and Ayodele Makinde sign National Letters of Intent to join the Leathernecks

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson announced the addition of two Leathernecks on during the national signing period. Orsy Gonzalez and Ayodele Makinde have each signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Purple and Gold in the fall of 2016.

Orsy Gonzalez (Springdale, Ark.) comes to Western after spending his first two seasons at Neosho County Community College. As a sophomore, Gonzalez started in all 16 games that he appeared in, netting one goal and one assist. During his freshman campaign, Gonzalez made 16 appearances off the bench. Gonzalez was a high school standout, earning Arkansas All-State honors in 2012 and 2013 as a defender and helped guide Springdale High School to the 2012 State Championship.

"We're hoping that he (Orsy) steps in to fill some vacancies that we have due to graduation," said Johnson. "He can play right back and center back. He's a real good athlete, skillful player, and we are looking forward to having him join us."

Ayodele Makinde (Chicago, Ill.) makes his way to Western Illinois after spending last season at Oakton Community College. Prior to his time at Oakton CC, Makinde spent his freshman campaign at IUPUI where he appeared in six matches, making five starts. Despite missing the first 13 game due to injury, Makinde registered an assist and three shots on goal. Coming out of high school Makinde was a 3-star recruit according to Top Drawer Soccer and starred for the Sockers FC Chicago since 2009. He was a full-time player for the Sockers U-18 academy, helping them to two State Cup semifinalist finishes and an MRL Premier Division title.

"Ayo played center back at Oakton Community College, but I think his best position may be left back or right back. We are happy to add Ayo to our backline as he will give us some depth and push to start in a position where we have some vacancies due to graduation," added Johnson.

Gonzalez and Makinde look to contribute to the Leathernecks in 2016, as the Purple and Gold look for its fourth-straight Summit League Tournament appearance.
