Lance Lenoir Selected as STATS FCS Special Teams Player of the Week

Lenoir becomes first Leatherneck in five years to receive weekly national award

MACOMB, Ill. – STATS selected Western Illinois junior wide receiver Lance Lenoir, Jr. (Crete/Crete-Monee) as its FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week. The award was announced on Monday (Sept. 7). The organization also tabbed the Fighting Leathernecks as the 'Team of the Week', following their season-opening win over Eastern Illinois.
 
Lenoir becomes the first Leatherneck since Matt Barr (Offensive) and Kyle Glazier (Defensive) in 2010 to receive the weekly national award.
 
Lenoir compiled a career-high 280 all-purpose yards, the second-highest total in NCAA Division I FCS last weekend and one yard shy of the leader, as Western defeated No. 25 EIU 33-5 on Thursday night. He compiled 156 yards on punt returns (51) and kickoff returns (105). It was the highest single-game all-purpose yardage total since Todd Speight recorded 312 versus Stephen F. Austin in September 2009.
 
The junior returned two kickoffs for 105 yards, setting a WIU single-game record with a 52.5 yard per return average. and three punts for 51 yards. His kickoff return of 71 yards was the longest by a Leatherneck in four years. Those 105 kickoff return yards were the most in four years.
 
He returned three punts for 51 yards, including a career-best 42 yards that matched the longest return since 2009.
 
Two of his returns led to a WIU touchdown, and he accounted for five of Western's six long plays of 20-plus yards versus Eastern Illinois.
 
Lenoir and the Fighting Leathernecks (1-0 overall) travel to Champaign on Saturday to face the Illinois Fighting Illini. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
