Lance Lenoir Named MVFC Player of the Week

Junior wide receiver earns the weekly award for his special teams play

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois junior wide receiver Lance Lenoir, Jr. (Crete/Crete-Monee) picked up his second Missouri Valley Football Conference 'Player of the Week' award, and this time earned it for his play on special teams. The MVFC office announced the selections on Sunday (Sept. 6).

Lenoir compiled a career-high 280 all-purpose yards, the second-highest total in NCAA Division I FCS last weekend and one yard shy of the leader, as Western defeated No. 25 Eastern Illinois 33-5 on Thursday night.

Of his 280 yards, 156 came on punt returns and kickoff returns.

The junior returned two kickoffs for 105 yards and three punts for 51 yards. His kickoff return of 71 yards was the longest by a Leatherneck in four years, while his punt return of 42 yards matched the longest since 2009. His 105 kickoff return yards were the most in four years.

Two of his returns led to a WIU touchdown, and he accounted for five of Western's six long plays of 20-plus yards versus Eastern Illinois.

Lenoir and the Fighting Leathernecks (1-0 overall) travel to Champaign on Saturday to face the Illinois Fighting Illini. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
