Tuesday is the deadline for current, former and prospective Leatherneck Club members to complete their membership cards

MACOMB, Ill. – Tuesday (June 30) is the deadline for current, former and prospective Leatherneck Club members to complete their membership cards and receive benefits for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Members can make their tax-deductible gift either online at GoLeathernecks.com/LeatherneckClub or by calling (309) 298-1190 during regular office hours. Some Leatherneck Club benefits include: recognition in the game program and website, reserved parking at football and basketball home games, hospitality room access, and special VIP gatherings.

According to interim director of athletics Matt Tanney, in recent weeks there has been an increase in membership cards arriving.

"The close of the fiscal year is fast approaching. We've seen a steady stream of support the last several weeks and hope to finish strong during the next 24 hours," said interim director of athletics Matt Tanney. "The continued support of our student-athletes and sport programs is always appreciated and makes an impact."

Leatherneck Club funds support scholarships, team travel, equipment purchases, and facility upgrades. Last year membership hit an eight-year high of 650.

"We are in the home stretch," said Director of Athletics for Development Michael Jones. "This membership drive started back on July 1 of last year, and we are down to the final day. I encourage everyone, from parents to former student-athletes to alumni and friends to join the Leatherneck Club and support our tremendous student-athletes. The need has never been greater, and your gift does make a difference."

Founded in 1971, the Leatherneck Club is the primary fundraising program of Western Illinois University Athletics. It provides annual funding for nearly 415 deserving student-athletes, allowing them to excel in the classroom and compete at the NCAA Division I level. The Leatherneck Club also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the upcoming Purple & Gold Auction on August 15.
