Women's Golf Adds Nicole Hamilton-Cross to Fighting Leatherneck Family

Hamilton-Cross will join the program during the 2015-16 academic year

MACOMB, Ill. – Fighting Leatherneck women's golf added another signee Thursday (Nov. 12) in Nicole Hamilton-Cross (Darfield, New Zealand/Darfield) as announced by Western Illinois head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen.

A four-year member of the Darfield High School varsity team, Hamilton-Cross has competed in several events throughout her career, finishing in the 'Top 10' in many of them.

"Nicole Hamilton-Cross is our program's first student-athlete from the southern hemisphere - haling from the country of New Zealand. She has enjoyed an incredible junior career and has competed in tournaments all over the world. Nicole is the 2015 South Island Junior Champion and she placed fifth in the 2014 North American Junior championship in Arizona. Her consistency and strong mental game will make her transition to D-1 golf very smooth. I anticipate many accomplishments for Nicole at WIU," said Lukkarinen.

As mentioned by Lukkarinen, this year Hamilton-Cross earned the South Island U19 Championship by carding a 79, while also competing in the New Zealand Open ProAm and the New Zealand Open Qualifier where she recorded marks of 75 and 78, respectively.

She also earned several academic honors during her high school career and plans on studying forensic chemistry at Western.
