Blasi Announces Addition of Two Golfers to Men’s Golf Program

Kyle Irlbacker and Drew Eaton join the Fighting Leatherneck Family

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois head men's golf coach Mel Blasi announced the addition of two student-athletes to his program in Kyle Irlbacker (Cary Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) and Drew Eaton (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame). Both student-athletes recently signed their National Letters of Intent.

"I am very pleased to announce the signing of Kyle Irlbacker to the Leatherneck Men's Golf Team. Kyle is an outstanding young man and will be a great addition to our Men's Golf Program. He has both the skills and the attributes that will make an impact on our program from the very start. Kyle possesses the unique combination of length off the tee, terrific feel around the greens and a competitive drive that will make him successful at the Division I level," said Blasi.

Irlbacker finished the 2015 Illinois State High School state tournament in ninth place individually. He also placed second in his conference tournament, third in regionals, and sixth in the section.

"I am also absolutely thrilled to have Drew Eaton sign a National Letter of Intent to play golf at Western Illinois University," continued Blasi. "He brings all of the most important ingredients you look for in a student-athlete; he is a scholar with superior talent, work ethic and a competitive fire. Drew's experience and accomplishments in junior golf and high school will serve him well as he transitions to the collegiate game."

Besides finishing second place in the 2015 ISHA 1A tournament, Eaton also won the 2015 regional and sectional titles. He also won the 2014 regional crown before finishing ninth in the 2014 state tournament. Overall during his career Eaton won 12 18-hole tournament and played in a total of 41 events throughout his high school career.

"Both Drew and Kyle will be joining a great group and will help solidify our team as we move toward our goal of winning a Summit League Championship," concluded Blasi.
