Changes to Q-Lot Parking near Western Hall and Hanson Field

Construction work currently underway

MACOMB, Ill. - The permanent closure to the northwest entrance of Q-Lot, which is part of the new Q-Lot entry project, will take place Wednesday, Oct. 21.

According to Ted Renner, Facilities Management deputy director, Hood Demolition has been working on the new entrance to Q-Lot, which is now located across from the Brophy Hall parking lot entrance, since last month. The northwest entrance, near Western Hall, will be closed permanently effective Wednesday morning. A pedestrian walkway will be created at that entrance. The project is part of of the University's Campus Master Plan.

In order to improve safety, major changes are coming to Q-Lot, the large parking lot just to the east of Western Hall. Beginning this week, the current main entrance on the northwest corner of Q-Lot will forever be closed to vehicle traffic. The new Q-Lot main entrance will now be located further east, directly across University Drive from the entrance to the Brophy Hall parking lot.

The new main entrance will directly impact Leatherneck Club tailgating on football game days. Beginning with the home football game against Youngstown State on October 31, Leatherneck Club members should enter Q-Lot through the new main entrance and drive directly south to the eastern-most entrance to the Leatherneck Club tailgating area. The purple WIU Athletics check-in tent will be located there, and Leatherneck Club members at the Varsity level ($250) and above will then proceed to their parking spots. Please note that the current entrance to the Leatherneck Club tailgate area near the WIU Rec Center will be barricaded and closed on football game days.

Leatherneck fans attending WIU Athletics events can still find ample parking in Q-Lot. These changes will create a safer pedestrian walkway outside Western Hall, and improve the flow of traffic in Q-Lot. Thank you for your understanding.
