Scott Kornberg Named Radio Broadcaster for the Leathernecks

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois University Athletic Director Tommy Bell announced on Monday the hiring of Scott Kornberg as the Leathernecks' radio broadcaster in 2014-15. Kornberg will serve as the radio play-by-play voice for the football and men's basketball teams.

He joins WIU after working with the Quad Cities River Bandits this season as the broadcast and media relations assistant. Kornberg has gained experience in both play-by-play and color commentary with Quad Cities, in addition to writing player bios and feature stories.

Kornberg updated content for the team website with stories, press releases and photos. He worked on the team's media guide, Play Ball program, and game notes.

A 2013 graduate of Maryland, Kornberg worked at the WMUC student radio station his four years as a broadcaster and ran the multimedia news department. He called Terrapin games for football, men's soccer, women's basketball, softball and baseball.

During the summer of 2013, he was the Director of Media Relations and play-by-play announcer of the High Point-Thomasville HiToms (N.C.), a summer team comprised of collegiate baseball players.

Throughout his career he has interned at WFAN 660 AM in New York, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), WTOP radio in Washington D.C., and NBC Sports in New York. In 2013 he was a national finalist for the Student Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award for his work on the Republican and Democratic National Conventions by Capital News Service.

Prior to joining the River Bandits, Kornberg was the Athletic Communications Assistant at Colgate University. He was the play-by-play voice for men's and women's soccer and field hockey for the Patriot League Network.

"I am beyond humbled and excited to be the next "Voice of the Leathernecks". It is so exciting to be a part of the great Western Illinois University tradition, as well as an athletics program that is really on the rise. This truly is a wonderful opportunity," said Kornberg.

The Leathernecks kick off the 2014 campaign on Thursday night, August 28th, at Hanson Field versus Valparaiso.
