New Scoreboard and Videoboard installed at Hanson Field

MACOMB, Ill. - The final pieces were installed this week as a new scoreboard and videoboard were installed at Hanson Field. The much anticipated arrival will enhance the fan experience at Leatherneck Football and Track & Field events.

The scoreboard, made by Daktronics, is 32' in length and 8' high. Fans got a first look at a videoboard last year during Leatherneck Football games. This year, the board will move from the south end to the north and is placed right below the scoreboard. The WIU Broadcasting department will run the cameras for the live feed to the videoboard.

One feature of the Neoti videoboard is the portability, where it can be taken down and moved to different locations with the proper framework. Western can also rent out the videoboard during the off-season for a potential income source.

Above both boards is a "Western Illinois University" archway designed by Western Illinois University Assistant Art Professor Duke Oursler.

According to football coach Bob Nielson, "Anytime you improve the fan environment and fan amenities it's a positive thing. Fans want to see replays, the video board helps create excitement around the game so I definitely think it'll be something that our fans are going to appreciate and enjoy."

Athletic Director Tommy Bell discussed the two new boards with the Leatherneck Sports Network. Both boards will make the official debut during Western's 2014 football season opener on August 28th against Valparaiso. Kickoff at Hanson Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
